PROTEUS will be presented at the EuroPro Workshop during the EDBT/ICDT 2017 (20th International Conference on Extending Database Technology; 20th International Conference on Database Theory), taking place in Venice (Italy) from March 21 to 24, 2017.
The paper titled "PROTEUS: Scalable Online Machine Learning for Predictive Analytics and Real-Time Interactive Visualization", by Bonaventura Del Monte, Jeyhun Karimov, Alireza Rezaei Mahdiraji, Tilmann Rabl, and Volker Markl (DFKI) has been recently accepted for presentation.
A full list of accepted papers of the conference can be found at: http://edbticdt2017.unive.it/?accepted-papers
The next consortium meeting of PROTEUS is approaching. Partners will be meeting in Berlin, hosted by DFKI, next April, 26-28.
In this case, partners are meeting to discuss the progress until the third milestone (closing May 2017), which constitutes the main mid-project achievement. The meeting will also be used for the preparation of the interim review meeting, which will be happening in Luxembourg on July 5th.
PROTEUS has taken the opportunity to present their results during the Internation conference Big Data Spain 2016. In this case, the talk Advanced data science algorithms applied to scalable stream processing was presented by David Piris and Ignacio García (TREELOGIC).
The public and program of the event brought together an interesting environment for fostering Big Data market opportunities as well as research intiatives. In addition, PROTEUS was also an active presenter in the poster's session organised during the breaks, where partners had the opportunity to network with attendees, including both industry and research representatives.
A new consortium meeting has taken place in Bournemouth, October 20-21 2016. The project partners are meeting each other to discuss the progress and advancements of the project, and defining the next steps.
At the same time, in the morning Oct. 2016, a public dissemination session has been organised. Both guests (Cloudera) and own (Treelogic) speakers have been invited to present relevant talks related to the field of Big Data research.
PROTEUS has taken part in the FiCloud conference. In particular, PROTEUS participated in a workshop organised in the course of the conference, "The 3rd International Symposium on Big Data Research and Innovation (BigR&I-2016)". Rubén Casado, Ignacio García and Hamid Bouchachia represented the project, together with a joint publication accpeted to this event.
A workshop and tutorial will be organised jointly at the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery (ECML-PKDD 2016) which will take place in Riva del Garda, Italy in September 19–23, 2016. ECML-PKDD is the premier European machine learning and data mining conference and builds upon a very successful series of 26 ECML and 19 PKDD conferences.
The workshop and the tutorial are co-organised by Associate Prof. Dr Hamid Bouchachia (BU) as part of the PROTEUS dissemination activities and will be focusing on large-scale learning from data streams generated by evolving non-stationary processes. The two events will discuss advances of methods and tools dedicated to process, analyse and learn from data streams.
All readers of this announcements are cordially invited to submit their work to the workshop and attend the tutorial.
Introduction to Apache Flink - The EU platform in the Big Data race
22nd January 2016 - 12:00
University of Oviedo, Escuela Politécnica de Ingeniería (Gijón, Spain). Aula Magna del Aulario Sur
Asterios Katsifodimos, a representative of the German Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and Rubén Casado, from Treelogic, will be presenting Flink in an open public presentation to be hosted by the University of Oviedo in the Polytechnic School (EPI, in Gijón).
Dr. Asterios Katsifodimos is a Postdoctoral Researcher co-leading the Stratosphere research project at the Technische Universität Berlin, a project that was the seed giving place to the Flink platform. He received his PhD in Computer Science in 2013 from INRIA Saclay and Université Paris-Sud under the supervision of Ioana Manolescu. His thesis focused on materialized view- based techniques for the management of Web Data. Asterios was a member of the High Performance Computing Lab at the University of Cyprus, where he obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science. His research interests include query processing, optimization, and massively parallel data analysis.
